TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Presidential Candidate (Capres) number two Prabowo Subianto said that Indonesia does not need state-owned hotels or hotels that are under the auspices of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN). He conveyed this when attending the Mandiri Investment Forum 2024 at the Fairmont Hotel, Jakarta on Tuesday, March 5 2024.
However, he asked for the opinion of BUMN Minister Erick Thohir, who was also present on the agenda. “In my opinion, we don’t need state-owned hotels. What do you think, Mr Erick? I ask for your advice. “I want to ask for rational and reasonable approval,” said Prabowo at the Mandiri Investment Forum 2024 at the Fairmont Hotel on Tuesday, March 5 2024.
Hearing Prabowo’s question, Erick Thohir appeared to nod his head several times.
Prabowo then said that during the 1950s government era or approximately 70 years ago, the government had attempted to develop the tourism sector industry. “But now, in my opinion, we should allow the private sector to become increasingly dominant, if possible,” he said.
According to Prabowo, it is time for the private sector to have greater space to develop tourism in the country. “I don’t understand why we need to be present in every sector of the economy. I mean, tourism in the 1950s, the government had to take a pioneering role,” he said.
However, at this time, said the Minister of Defense, the government could make regulations to rationalize BUMN, including in terms of supervision. In the future, he ensured that policies would be taken rationally.

On the same occasion, he also asked for input from economic experts who were present at the event. “I want to adopt rational and reasonable policies, so I need all suggestions. Therefore, I want the best input, including from this forum,” he said.
Prabowo explained that he was open to business cooperation and investment. If there are parties who want to collaborate in business matters, he welcomes them with open arms.
“We are open for business, we want to get investment from anywhere. What we can do to the private sector, we must provide space for the private sector to do it. “Our BUMN must be rationalized,” said Prabowo.
