The titular host asks contestants to cook a themed meal with only a measly price range and a grocery retailer full of supplies at their disposal. Tasked with, say, setting up a “steakhouse feast†on a measly finances, or a “sweet and savory feast†utilizing only what can fit in a frying basket, many contestants inevitably crumble. The true joy, though, is watching those who craft something Michelin-worthy from scraps. Something of a precursor to Nailed It, Chopped is family-friendly, nauseating, and inspiring in equal measure. If you’ll find a way to fight by way of the extra grotesque segments, you’ll find a couple of not-so-bad concepts you never would have considered.
